National Orchestra to pay tribute to Jamshid Mashayekhi

Iran’s National Orchestra has been scheduled to perform a concert honoring the late actor Jamshid Mashayekhi.

The orchestra will go on stage at the Iranian Academy of Arts on June 17, the Roudaki Foundation announced recently.

The performance will be conducted by Nader Mashayekhi, son of the late actor and former conductor of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra.

Iranian Art Academy is also set to hold a commemoration ceremony to pay tribute to the late actor.

The ceremony, titled ‘A Narrative of Master Life’, is slated for June 17, 2019 at the Aseman (sky) complex of the academy.

It will be held in cooperation with Roudaki Foundation, Cinema House, Farabi Cinema Foundation, Beautification Organization of Tehran Municipality, Cinema Museum, and Niavaran Art Creations Foundation.

Born in 1934, Jamshid Mashayekhi who left his studies in Theater unfinished is a late Iranian actor. He was hired by the newly established Dramatic Arts Center in 1957.

In 1963, he played a role in the short movie 'Snake Cover', directed by Hajir Daryoush. He officially began his acting career in 1970.

Mashayekhi's debut movie ‘Brick and Mirror’ in 1965 did not keep him away from being involved in theater as he kept playing roles on stage for years and remained faithful to the fine art.

He has been honored with the First Grade Order of Art and Culture. His roles in historical TV series such as ‘Kamal-ol-Molk’ and ‘Hezar Dastan’ exhibit his acting ability.

He appeared in numerous movies, including ‘The Cow’, ‘Chrysanthemums’, ‘The Fateful Day’, ‘Don't Call Me a Clunker!’, ‘Thirteen 59 (1980)’ and ‘Cheque’.

Mashayekhi also took part in several TV series such as ‘It's All There’, ‘Imam Ali (AS)’, ‘Era of Constitutional Revolution’, ‘The Cherry Garden’, ‘Mother’, ‘Tabriz in Fog’, ‘The Chef’, ‘The Doormat’, ‘Lighter than Darkness’, and ‘Setayesh’.

He died on April 2, 2019 at the age of 85.
